For love, or money?

A while back, I went out for coffee with a good friend.  She and I don't have the opportunity to meet up that often, so it was time for us to re-connect and get caught up on each others lives.  The last time I saw her, I was happily married.  So a lot had changed since then. After hearing about my separation, she took a sip of her cappuccino and then sighed. "Honestly Leo, if for some horrible reason things didn't work out with my husband, then I would never marry for love again." "What?  Why?"  I was shocked.  Shocked at the thought of things not working out with her and John, but even more shocked at the thought of her giving up on love. "Well, if we broke up, I don't think I'd have faith in love anymore.  I would never go through it again. But I WOULD marry again for money". Wow. I didn't quite know how to respond to this. My good friend, who I would never in a million years peg as a g...

Taking it to the next level.

I'll never forget the day I met my best friend. It was October 20th 1997 and I was about to start my shift at work.   Back then I volunteered at my university's local radio station and that day we would be doing our first live broadcast on television.  The radio had chosen "yours truly" to do the first on-air show.   To describe myself as nervous was an understatement.   I stood in front of the cameras like a zombie, trying to calm myself down before we went live.   I uttered a positive mantra over and over in my head to gain my confidence.   You're good enough.  You're smart enough.  And gosh darn, people like you. "You ready Leo?  Here we go!!  In... 10....9....8...."   Oh my God.  This is it.  I'm gonna vomit. "....3....2...and 1.....aaaaanddd, you're ON!" "Hi.  I'm Leokadia.  It's 6pm, and you're watching CHRW LIVE." And we were off!! Somehow, I had managed to p...

The dreaded peacock.

This past weekend I took Bruce Lee for a walk.   If you didn't read my last blog post, then you wouldn't know who Bruce Lee is.   If this is the case..... then why didn't you read my last entry?   I will forgive you, on one condition.  That you go back and read the last entry and any other entry you may have missed prior to reading this one.  Please don't tell me that you're busy, or you have kids, or you have to "work"......these are all lame excuses.  Go read my blog. Anyway, Bruce Lee is my dog.  And he's the most beautiful dog on this planet. So the other day, Bruce Lee and I went for a walk.   We have a few routes that we like to take, mostly nature walks.  Through forests, on beaten paths and near ponds and rivers.   We very often spot wild animals on our hikes, which is always a fun treat for Bruce who likes to chase after the many geese, squirrels, chipmunks and beavers.  Once in a w...

41 to 60. And no, this is not my new age category.

I know what you're thinking.   You're thinking it's time to learn yet another 20 interesting facts about me. I agree. Enjoy :) 41.  I slather my face in Nivea every night before bed.  I end up looking like a ghost.  A slippery ghost. 42.  After I get something from  my kitchen cupboard, I leave the cupboard wide open.  I feel like it just makes it easier to grab another item later on  because I don't have to re-open the cupboard again.  And you know how much energy that exerts.  Am I right ladies??   Anyway....at any given time, my kitchen looks like this:    43.  I gained 70 pounds with each pregnancy.  I took the term 'beached whale' to a whole new level.  I was a beached............wait, what's bigger than a whale?  Damn my lack of ocean knowledge! 44.  I very often steal people's life stories and say that they happened to me.  I don't mean to though....

She didn't know.

......continued from last blog entry ....... I'll never forget my first Tragically Hip concert.   My good friend Bill gave me a concert ticket for my birthday almost 20 years ago.  I wasn't exactly thrilled about it though.  I would have much rather preferred a new jean jacket, or a new pair of Ray Bans.  But alas, I was given this ticket, so I decided to make the best of it.  I didn't really know who "The Hip" were back then.  Only that they were some band that were adored by almost every living Canadian.  I didn't really know why.  I heard a few of their songs..... they were ok.....but who's kidding who, they were no Guns N' Roses. Bill was obsessed with The Hip, and so were all of his buddies who we went with to the concert.  It was fun to watch how excited they were before the show.   It was like it was going to be some monumental moment for them or something? The lights in the concert hall suddenly went down....

Twist my arm.

"Guess what?!" My sister had never called me with such enthusiasm before. Something was o n the verge .... "WE have been invited by my good friend Bianka to attend an amazing pool party at some rich guy's mansion in Toronto!!  Tickets are $500 a piece, but we're getting in for free!  And not only that, but we're gonna be in the VIP section the whole time.  AND.....get this...the one and only, DJ Steve Aoki is playing at the party!  Apparently they paid him something like $80,000 to perform for the afternoon.  Can you believe this??  Isn't this insane?  BUT WAIT......there's more....it gets better...." It couldn't get better, I thought to myself.  A Toronto mansion?!  A VIP pool party?  Steve Aoki??  There's NO WAY this party could get ANY better. But my sister continued... "After the pool party...........are you ready..........we're going to another Toronto mansion.........just wait.......where we're going to ...

If we don't need you, why are you there?

I need to start off this entry by apologizing to my fan base.  I know that all 15 of you were extremely disappointed to see.....or rather......not see, a blog entry from me last week.  But before you hate me, I have a very good excuse. I, literally, had a part of me removed last week. Last Monday afternoon I was rushed to the emergency room with severe abdominal pains.  In my tragic state, I barely made it out of bed and barely made it down the stairs.  But as sick as I was, I still momentarily stopped to think about whether I should put on some makeup.  I knew with all of the pain I was feeling, I couldn't hold a makeup brush to save my life, but there was a very good chance I would meet a cute doctor there. Hmmmmm?  Ahh, Screw it.   The thought of applying lipstick, even pale pink, made me stomach churn.  This was bad!  I needed to get to the hospital.  And stat!  Mama was about to open the front door for me wh...
